Joey's story is not unique amongst the thousands of graduates that flock to New York City every year chasing dreary artistic dreams and notoriety, but her struggle to transition from university life and eek out a living as a post-college theater major has been anything but boring. In 2010 Jo packed up the first car she'd ever owned and headed to the big city without much but her wits and the $5,000 cash she'd managed to save up after living a year with her parents in Ohio post graduation. Finishing college at the height of the economic crisis meant that finding work wasn't easy and as a result Jo took the first job she was offered – a New York City Public Schools as an aide to English as a Second Language students. The job allowed a 40 hour work week and flexible hours so that she still had time to pursue her passions and gave barely enough money to squeak by. In almost two year's time she'd been promoted to a director in the theater department at a fine arts high school and in 2013 accepted a position as a theater instructor and program director at Burnswick Academy in Brooklyn, where she makes her home.
Outside of her two jobs she also works with the New York City Children's Theatre as an actor on a seasonal basis and is a member of an arguably terrible amateur sketch comedy group. Jo's personality is outgoing and warm, though she can often be aloof and is known for putting fun before more trying duties. Despite that she is reliable when she makes a commitment and an especially loyal friend who is the first to sign up to help someone move or listen when they're going through a break up. She has a large social circle, though the people she trusts with her own drama are few and far between. She is drawn to intelligence, wit, integrity, and individuality and shys away from those who are chronically negative, create an anxious environment, or wallow in their own insecurities.
